Daily Hunt Log - Free Download

A hunting journal should be more than just a non-structured account of the story of your hunting adventure. A complete hunting journal should also include a tool to help you develop proven tactics or show evidence of failure though your daily hunt log.  By taking the time to review a set group of measurable hunting observations and tactics, a growing knowledge of what works in the field will be developed and available for you to review throughout your hunting life.

I have produced a printable daily hunting log that you can download from the bottom of this page and use for your own hunting log.  I have tried to take into account many aspects of the hunt worth collecting so that an accurate account of the hunt is quickly produced and easily reviewed.

Information this log sheet helps quickly gather are:

Where the Hunt Occurred
How it was Hunted (stands, blinds etc.)
Weather Conditions
Conditions of the Hunting Grounds
Hunting Tools (Guns, Calibers, Bows, Camo, Scents)
Animals Seen, Shot and their Condition
Other sketches and notes.

The log also allows you to collect information about animals that are harvested and can be beneficial in future hunts. Logging information on hoof wear, stomach contents and hide condition, all help indicate frequented habitat.

I have provided this file in two formats.

Format #1 – A PDF format that you should print double sided.  This has easily checked off  information on one side and sketch and note area on the rear. Click Here for the PDF

Format #2 – A word document that you can modify to suit your own needs.  Add and delete items on the page to make keeping your daily hunt log easier and more beneficial to you specific needs. Click Here for the Word Document.

This daily hunt log is provided on a standard 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper and can easily be printed and placed in a 3 ring binder for years of storage and reference.  You can also take the file to your local print shop and have them place 20-40 sheets in a spiral binder with heavy card stock on the front and back for a durable portable log book that will span the whole hunting season depending on the number of days you hunt.

Next year, five years down the road or when you are no longer able to hunt like a young man, this log will also stimulate memories of the successful hunt or of hunts that were total failures, all good memories.

Be sure to comment on any ideas that would make this better.
